Gabrielle's Garden with information on childhood cancer opsoclonus mycolonus neuroblastoma brett michaele gabrielle sara joshua hanna

Opsoclonus Self-Explanatory has been under control just occasional twitching of the eyes when she is tired, angry, excited, or sick.
Ataxia Remains slightly ataxic at all times increases when needing a treatment or when she is tired, angry, excited or sick
Sleeps More Usually sleeps 7-8 hours a night. This increases to 12 hours when in need of a treatment.
Eats More She used to stop eating when she needed a treatment.  Now she can eat several meals a day, much more than normal.
Lack of Focus Attention Span is limited in general but can stay on task for 30 minutes. When in need of a treatment her ability to focus is greatly decreased. Attention to task usually cannot exceed 10 minutes.
Lack of Reasoning When Gabrielle is having a disagreement or doing something wrong, she will stop when asked. You can EXPLAIN what she is doing wrong and she will correct her behavior. When she is in need of a treatment, you cannot reason with her and the behavior will continue after a short pause in that behavior.
Mood Swings When she needs a treatment one second she can be happily playing the next she will be angry, upset, or irrational.  The smallest thing will set her off into a tantrum.
Slurred Speech Her speech is far from perfect but when she is in need of a treatment, I have a hard time understanding her. Her words are slurred and she has a difficult time finding the right words to use. After a treatment, everyone notices an improvement in her intelligibility.
Jerky Movement Her movements are not graceful in general but when in need of a treatment her movements are more jerky and clumsy.
Leaking Urine/Wetting Only when she is need of treatment she will leak urine throughout the day, have full wetting accidents during the day and night.  This stops immediately after a treatment.
Repetitive Behavior She will do or say the same thing repeatedly.  This happens infrequently but increases greatly when she needs a treatment.
Slight Weight Loss Her weight tends to drop 1lb to 2lbs when she needs a treatment even though she is eating more.
Compulsiveness She tends to be compulsive but listens to reason normally. When she is in need of a treatment, she does not. Example, on her homework she will constantly erases even if the answer is correct and if you ask her to stop and take the eraser away she cannot move on, she just keeps obsessing over what needs to be erased. She is not like this after a treatment.
Obsessive Same as above.
Continuation of Thought Process Good or bad she needs to finish whatever she is doing or saying.  If you pull her away, or try to interrupt her, she will go into a tantrum. This only occurs when she needs a treatment.
Increased The following things occur more easily with her in general but when she needs a treatment, they occur excessively.
Frustration Since she can not do things she normally can
Anger Since she can not do things she normally can
Crying Since she can not do things she normally can
Tongue Chewing She tends to chew on her tongue, which increases when she needs a treatment.
Hyperactivity She is much higher strung and overly active when she is in need of a treatment or when she is tired, excited, angry or tired.
Confusion Does not remember things she used to know, such as where her sock draw is, simple homework problems, who certain people or places are.  This only happens when she needs a treatment.
Forgetfulness Will forget things you just said, and things she has said.  This only happens when she needs treatment.
Itching She constantly scratches herself, this only happens when she needs a treatment.
Not Processing Information This only happens when she needs a treatment. Example, you ask her to get dressed she has a blank stare on her face and you proceed to ask her to get dressed again. This will continue for a while and finally she processes the information and gets dressed.
